The arts—visual, performance, musical— thrive here.
While museums, galleries and theaters showcase art to be enjoyed, local art and community centers in just about every town offer courses and encouragement to nurture even the tiniest creative instinct. And, much of the support for Chicago’s world class art collections comes from the northern suburbs.
So this month we’re introducing you to a spiritual photographer, an emotional visual artist, a successful actor, a jewelry maker who creates wearable art, and a rising star opera singer. Many of them volunteer their time and talents to enrich the lives of others. Each one of them deserves a curtain call.

Susie McMonagle—An Evanston-based actress, currently appearing in "Billy Elliott," and feeling fortunate to be be working and thriving in theatre.

LeAnita Ragland-Brooks—a fifth generation artist from Winnetka that finds her passion in jewelry.

Annette Turow—an Evanston artist whose work captures the emotional, spiritual, intellectual and familial.

John Reilly—a Lake Forest photographer with a strong connection to the spiritual in his work and surroundings.

Paul Corona—an operatic master in the making that hasn't forgotten his humble North Shore roots.
