My name is Elline Eliasoff. I am a Clinical Exercise Specialist and a Cancer Exercise Trainer.
I read the section on fit to give in this month’s publication and thought it was great!
I am writing to you with an idea to expound on the idea of volunteer work with charities and children look at exercise with seniors and with cancer patients and survivors.
The latest statistic is that 1 of every 4 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Exercise when done properly, is an amazing and helpful tool to attenuate side effects and help women tolerate treatment and live a better quality of life post treatment. It is an underserved population because it is not covered by insurance and the issues that arise during treatment are complicated. (Cancer in general benefit from exercise, not just breast cancer).
I volunteer at the Cancer Wellness Center in Highland Park. The Center offers a wide variety of amazing services at no charge for anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer. I volunteer in the capacity of a personal trainer and offer exercise evaluation and prescription.
I thought this would be a good subject for an article since it affects so many people and there are only a few facilities offering this specialized programming in the community.
