North Shore Chicago Beaches Open for the Season

Grab your water wings and umbrella—it's time to hit the beach.

Many North Shore beaches open Memorial Day weekend. And if you've got a resident pass to your local beach, you can use this list to break out of the "same old sand" rut, pack a picnic and explore a new one!

Evanston:

Lighthouse Beach
2611 Sheridan Rd.

Clark Street Beach
1811 Sheridan Rd

Free Admission on Mondays from July 11-Aug 29 for Evanston residents
Free Admission for children under age one

Greenwood St. Beach
1401 Sheridan

Lee Street Beach
1111 Lake Shore Blvd

Admission/Hours of Operation:

Beaches open for the season on Saturday, June 11th
Season tokens can be purchased at Morton Civic Center
2100 Ridge Ave.
Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Dempster Street Beach Office
During May: Sat. and Sun., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
May 30: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
May 31-Sept. 5: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily

April 1-June 10 $24/$40 R/NR
June 11-July 31 $32/$56 R/NR
Aug. 1-Labor Day $16/$28 R/NR

Daily beach admission: $8 adult, $6 children age 1-11
Beach Hours: June 11-Labor Day, 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Wilmette:

Wilmette Beach

Date Open: Saturday, May 28  Date Close: Monday, September 5
Hours: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily

Daily Beach admission:
Between 9 a.m.-6 p.m: $4.25/$8.50 R/NR
Between 6-8 p.m: $1.50/$3 R/NR

Wilmette beach Season Pass
Individual Pass: $36/$92 R/NR
Must get photo ID for beach season pass

Gillson Park
Sheridan Road and Washington Ave.

Date Open: Saturday, May 28
Daily Hours: 9am-8pm


Grilling Permits: Free for residents/ $10 for non-residents


Winnetka:

Tower Beach
Tower and Sheridan Road

Date Open: Saturday, June 11, 2010

2011 Season Pass:
Individual: $45/$75 R/NR

Highland Park:

Rosewood Beach
45 Roger Williams Ave.

Open from dawn until dusk
Lifeguards on duty from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. from June 13-August 14, August 20, 21,27,28 and September 3-5

Parking Pass needed: City Sticker for Highland Park residents, beach Parking Sticker for non-residents
(Can be purchased at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Rd. 10 days prior to picnic date to secure a permit).

Glencoe:

Glencoe Beach
160 Hazel Ave

Date Open: May 28

Residents: $6 (adults) $4 (youth) no charge (seniors 60+)
Non-residents: $9 (adults) $7 (youth) $4(seniors 60+)
Twilight 6-8 p.m.: $3 (resident), $2 (youth) no charge (seniors 60+)
Twilight non-residents 6-8 p.m: $5 (adults), $4 (youth) $2 (seniors 60+)

Lake Forest:

Forest Park Beach
Deerpath and Lake Roads

Hours of Operation: 6 a.m.-11 p.m.

Date Open: Memorial Day Weekend (May 28-30, 2011)
Beach Guards on Duty: 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday-Saturday

Residents need photo ID for free beach admission (can be made at Lake Forest Recreation Center 400 Hastings Rd.)
Daily Pass: No Charge
Weekends and Holidays only: $10 for non-residents and residents without a valid form of residential identification

Lake Bluff:

Sunrise Beach
455 Sunrise Ave

Life Guards on duty:
9 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays
8 a.m.-8 p.m. weekends

 

Park District Residents: Free (with resident beach pass)
Non-Resident Season Membership: $65 per person
Non-Resident Daily Fee: $10 per person

Waukegan:

Waukegan Municipal Beach
201 Sea Horse Drive

Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Memorial Day Weekend-Labor Day
Daily Pass: Free Entry
$20 Beach Pass for Non-Residents during weekends and holidays

Illinois Beach State Park:
1 Lake Front Drive

Park Hours: April to Memorial Day Weekend-open Sunrise to Sunset
Memorial Day Weekend-Labor Day Weekend-open Sunrise-8 p.m.

Reservations are now being accepted for the 2011 summer camping season
